What's next for computer monitors?

I've had a 5:4 ratio monitor for about a couple years now... I wish I could have bought a wide screen back then.

Are computer monitors and TV's merging now? All modern TV's are wide screen, either 720p or 1080p, and now it seems monitors are being listed as 720p or 1080p monitors.

And what's with off-by-one ratios? I never even heard of a 5:4 monitor until I got mine. Now I see the same trap for wide screen monitors, as they offer 16:10 when all sane videos are in true 16:9 !

So in short, I'm wondering if now is the best time to buy a 1080p monitor? Then a year or two from now, what's going to replace it?

I'm totally waiting for the OLED technology to catch on, that technology is just drenched in awesome IMO.
